2007 Freedom Center and Information Collective sponsored a legal training on the Department of Social Services MA foster care system, addressing legal rights and DSS mistreatment and harm inflicted on children and familes.

The mission of the Department of Social Services (DSS) is to strengthen and encourage family life and protect the right of children to sound health and normal physical and mental development. However, DSS has consistently delivered services that have violated their own regulations, unnecessarily torn families apart, and inflicted a great deal of damage on the health and wellbeing of the children in their custody. The Freedom Center is offering a legal training for DSS clients and their family members to learn their legal rights and also to train volunteers willing to serve as advocates for families struggling with DSS.
